Mr. Ameyaw said functional Literacy had been the avowed aim of successive governments of making adult and other illiterates read and write and all efforts have been made to get the programme sustainable. Mr. Ameyaw hinted that the programme is going to get a new approach whereby as of previous times the division were mobilizing people for the programme people were going to be encouraged to form groups in their various communities so as to approach the Non Formal Division to assist in their group classes.

Mr. Ameyaw said the Non Formal Division of the Two Sister Districts has been able to produce over 2000 people who can now read and write over the years. He said incentives packages have been given to facilitators, who do voluntary services to give off their best whilst learners who pass out are also awarded certificates and other incentives.

Hon. Anaba said the concept is to develop and enhance capacity. He cited that the concept has made some illiterates read and write. Eradication of poverty Hon Anaba indicated could be brought about when Functional literacy is taken serious since Farmers could identify the sort of chemicals they would need, traders could account accurately, people could read the bible in church, watchmen could identify numbers and many more.

Hon. Zakari Anaba said Functional Literacy programme is aimed at ensuring literacy for all and called on all to embrace the programme. He said one in every five adult is still not literates as two thirds of them are women whilst 75 million children are out of school which meant there is a long way to go in achieving the aim and called all participants of the programme to double their efforts to help the unfortunate ones who could not benefit from Formal Education.
