MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT DONATES PPEs TO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS


The Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency has donated PPEs to second cycle schools in the Tano South Municipality to help prevent or combat covid-19 in schools.

Handing over the items to the Municipal Director for Education, Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere the MP and deputy minister for Ahafo Region said the presentation was being made on behalf of the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo in fulfillment of his promise to provide all schools with PPEs on reopening of schools. He said the  President has proven time and again that it has education at heart and must be commended for that, he also said President Akufo-Addo understands that it is his responsibility to protect every Ghanaian lives and he is committed to do  just that and entreated all and sundry to support the President. Ending his address, he advised heads of institutions and staff of beneficiary institutions to make good use of the items so that it serves its purpose. He asked them to prioritize the safety of the students and strictly adhere to all the measures that came with the reopening of schools.

The Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Mabel Botokro, receiving the items, thanked the Member of Parliament and the President for giving them their share of the national cake. She commended the President for his immense contribution towards education in the municipality and Ghana as a whole. She promised the Member of Parliament and people present that she would see to it that the items are used appropriately to serve its purpose. She ended by pleading with the government to continue to take care of the needs of the educational sector.

MCE HOLDS MEETING WITH RELIGIOUS HEADS AND HEADS OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS


A special meeting to brief heads of religious and educational institutions on the government’s directives on the reopening of schools and churches was held across the municipality.

The Municipal Director for Education, Mrs. Mabel Botokro in her opening address said that through the goodness of God and the efforts of the President and his government, issues of corona virus has been well contained in our country and due to that, the government has eased restrictions  to allow some church activities and educational activities to resume. Talking about education, she mentioned some of the measures put in place by the ministry of education in consultation with GES and other key stakeholders.
Mrs. Botokro said all educational institutions will be opened for only final year students across the country and mentioned that all extra-curricular activities have been banned in schools to keep students safe, class sizes has been reduced to 25 in a class. Personal protective equipment will be provided for all students, class hours has been reduced, among many other measures that has been put in place to ensure students safety till they write their final exams.

Ending her address, she urged parents and all stakeholders to do their parts to ensure that Ahafo region does not record a case of corona virus.
The Municipal Director for Health, Dr. Peter Asare, said the earlier reports of a Covid-19 patient having contact with people in our municipality was true but a contact tracing  and after the test was conducted, the results came out negative, meaning, Tano South Municipal and Ahafo region as a whole has not recorded any Covid-19 case yet. He added that, health workers in the municipality have been well trained and equipped to face this pandemic. He continued that, the pandemic will obviously stay with us for a while and pleaded with the people to practice the safety measures put in place by the government, he continued by advising churches on how to have their church services without putting their members at risk.
He ended his address by reiterating his outfit’s readiness and commitment to protecting the people of Tano South and Ghana as a whole and urged all the people to call on them anytime need may be.

Collins Takyi Offinam in his speech welcomed them and told the gathering that the government isn’t pleased with the hardship Ghanaians have had to endure due to the outbreak of the covid – 19 pandemic and it is doing everything within its power to protect lives and also make life a bit easier for Ghanaians. reasons that informed the government’s decision to ease restrictions, he said the easing of restrictions was necessary since the restrictions though important wasn’t really helping majority of Ghanaians.
He advised religious leaders to accept that we are not in normal times so they must heed to the directives that came with the opening of places of worship, such as disinfecting their places as often as required, observing social distancing protocols, amongst others.
He ended by thanking health workers and all the people in the municipality for their efforts in ensuring that the municipal and Ahafo haven’t recorded any case yet. He urged them to keep up the good work and help Ghana fight the covid-19 pandemic.

TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY INAUGURATES SEVEN ZONAL COUNCILS


The Seven Zonal Councils in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region have been duly sworn into office at different ceremonies held at Derma, Ankaase, Subriso, Techimantia, Brosankro, Bechem, and Dwomo,
The programme was attended by the MCE for Tano South Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the Presiding Member Hon. Asare Antwi, Municipal Budget Analyst Mr. Mark Anaane and some Heads of Department.

In a short but impressive speech, the Presiding Member of the Assembly Hon. Asare Antwi called for togetherness amongst Assembly Members and pleaded with them to leave everything that might have happened during their elections in the past and focus on the good of the people who voted for them. He added that, partisanship tendencies should end with elections and after elections whatever must be done, must be done together for the betterment of all the people, the town and the country as a whole not a group of people.                 
He expressed optimism and wished them all well in the discharge of their duties.

The municipal chief executive for Tano South, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi speaking to the gathering congratulated all members of the newly constituted committee. He mentioned that most times, Zonal Councils fail to perform their constitutional mandates because of lack of togetherness. He said after they assume office, they form factions and oppose each to others instead of coming together to work for the development of the people who voted for them.

He mentioned that they are agents of developments in their community and entreated them to take upon the task of developing their community in their small ways and not resorting to government for the things their power allows them to do.
Hon. Takyi mentioned that when leadership is mixed with politics, it hinders development, he advised the members to put away their party colours and focus on improving the livelihood of the people in the community.
