ST JOSEPH COLLEGE OF EDUCATION HOLD ITS 3RD GRADUATION CEREMONY

The ST. Joseph College of Education at Bechem in the Brong Ahafo Region has held its 3^rd graduation ceremony. In all 235 students of the college graduated with basic diploma certificate. In a speech at the ceremony, the Tano South District Chief, Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba said graduation is an occasion that enables students to take stock of what they have gone through for the years they spent in school. This he said gives the students the opportunity to receive what they have worked hard for. He said as part of the educational reform programme of the N.D.C. government, all schools under trees are going to be eliminated and assured his outfit is prepared to give assistance to the human resource base in the district.

The Principal of ST. Joseph College of Education, Mrs. Cecilia Quansah in a speech said the college is committed to prepare dedicated and patriotic teachers to teach in the basic schools in the country.

She said the college admitted 276 students to persue diploma in basic education progrmme for the 2010/2011 academic year and mentioned that the total population of the students still stands at 850 and gave the numbers of tutors as 45 o f which 34 are males and remaining females.

In terms of the infrastructural development, the principal said the college received an amount

of GHȻ430,000 as GETFUND through the central government in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 academic year to construct 8 unit blocks of flat for the staff. She said that the college received five desktops from Honorable Andrews Adjei Yeboah the Member of Parliament for the district and 20 desk top computers from the Minister of Education through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication.

The Principal enumerated some challenges the college faces and mentioned staff accommodation and equipment for the technical workshop of the college and appealed to philanthropist to come to the aid of the college. The Catholic Bishop of the Toaso Diocese the most Rev. Peter K. Atuahene who chaired the occasion advised the gradaunds to work hard as they are leaving for the world to impact their knowledge to others whom they will be teaching. He said discipline changes the lifestyle of people and advised the gradaunds to desist from immoral activities such as alcoholism and drug abuse.

The Member of Parliament, Honorable Andrews Adjei Yeboah in a short address promised that he would do his ultimate best to support the college with computers. In all ten graduands had 2^nd class upper, 42 had 2^nd class lower, 137 hard 3^rd class and 45 had pass. Two graduands receive special award from the college authorities.
