INAUGURATION OF COMMUNITY WATCH COMMITTEE AND AREA COUNCIL AT ADAA/ANKAASE AND DERMA


The Tano South District Chief Executive, Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba has inaugurated a Community Watch Committee in Ankaase in the Tano South District.

Speaking at the function, Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba said the committee is an offspring of the Ghana Police Service and the Tano South District Assembly to ensure safety of life and property in the community. He said the committee is going to work with the Tano South Police Service to help curb crime and robbery in the community. The District Chief Executive therefore appealed to the volunteers to let the sound training and advice they have received reflect in their personal and professional lifestyles.

Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba therefore urged the Personnel/Volunteers to endeavour to mirror the image of the Community Watch Committee as they contribute to the protection of the community. He also entreated the general public to show keen interest in the activities of the committee. Mr. Bukari Zakari Anaba charged the various household to try and give a monthly contribution to the volunteers to support their welfare.

Also in a speech, the Tano South District Commander of Police ASP Yao Wisdom Avornu disclosed that the volunteers have the power to arrest all suspicious character and also question people with dubious character. He revealed that the Community Watch Committee serve as additional eyes to the police. Commander hinted that volunteers are not to reveal any secret concerning their work to the public and not to torture, beat or manhandle any arrested person. He congratulated the volunteers of availing themselves to protect their community.

The programme coincided with the inauguration of the Area Council at Derma. Inaugurating the council Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba said the Area Council is the only means of bringing governance closer to the people at the grassroots. He said the council is to assist any person authorized by the District Assembly to collect Revenues due to the Assembly and to enumerate and keep records of all reliable persons and properties in the area.

Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba disclosed that the Functional Organization Assessment Tool (FOAT) has been set by the government to ensure that all government organizations are doing things right. The DCE said when qualified the district would be given an amount that is as equal to the Common Fund to help embark on developmental projects in the district.

Nana Ofosu Boadu who chaired the inauguration at Derma thanked the organizers of the programme for the kind gesture done his people. He therefore called on the District Assembly to help repair all damaged roads leading to Derma to help boost the image of the community, since they generate funds for the district through tomatoes farming.
