1st RUNNER UP OF MISS B/A @ 50 BEAUTY CONTEST MISS TANO SOUTH RECEIVES ROUSING WELCOME AT BECHEM

Bechem, the District Capital of the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region was thrown into a state of merry making when the Tano South’s District representative of the Miss B/A @ 50 Beauty Pageant, Miss Juliet Konama Sabi who was crowned the 1st Runner-Up of the Regional contest arrived in her home District’s capital Bechem.

Miss Konama Sabi dressed in a B/A @ 50 Anniversary Cloth and wearing her crown was driven through the principal Streets of Bechem in an open vehicle amid the hooting of horns in a grand style of a convoy of vehicles including the District Chief Executive Hon. Bukari Zakari Anaba who had earlier received her at the outskirt of the town on her arrival from Sunyani the Regional Capital where the event took place over the weekend.

Led by the District Chief Executive, members of the District B/A @ 50 Planning Committee, officials of the Tano South District Assembly and family members, Miss Konama later paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Bechem Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II and his elders at the Omanhene’s palace.


In a short speech, the District Chief Executive said he was using one stone to kill two birds since he was using the beauty queen’s call on, Nana to also introduce the New District Coordinating Director and his Deputy Messrs Frimpong Manso and Mark Mensah respectively who had been newly posted to the District and also to introduce Miss Juliet Konama Sabi the Tano South District representative to the Miss B/A @ 50 beauty contest who won the 1st runner-up position in the contest.

The District Chief Executive enumerated events that led to the final selection of Miss Konama to represent the Tano South District in the contest. He said after a series of radio announcements on the local information centres in Bechem, Techimantia and Derma and an intensive street announcements made by the Information Service Department Cinema Van and not withstanding numerous posters filed on the event throughout the District, only six girls registered to participate

in the District event, unfortunately four out of the six contestants pulled out of the contest at the last hour leaving only two namely Juliet Konama Sabi and Yvonne Gyamfuaa.

The District Chief Executive said the pull out of the other contestants made it impos

sible for the organizers of the Tano South District’s Version of the Mi

ss B/A @ 50 beauty contest to take place, so an alternative arrangement was made in selecting one out of the contestants left to represent the District in the Regional event and the mantle fell on Miss Konama who represented the District. The Chief Execu

tive said Miss Konama at the Regional event proved her worth and won the 1st Runner-up position comin

g next to the Sunyani Municipal beauty queen who won the 1st posit

ion.

This feat of Miss Konama the District Chief Executive said has brought a great honour to the Tano South District in general and Bechem in particular where the beauty queen comes from and saw it as very great an honour to inform and introduce

the queen to the custodian of Bechem who happens to be the Omanhene Nana Fosu Gye

abour Akoto II hence the courtesy call on him.

Speaking at a short but very impressing ceremony at the Omanhe

ne’s palace at Bechem Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto recalled that this is the second time such an

honour had been brought to Bechem and praised Miss Konama for her feat.

Nana Akoto advised the beauty queen that her achievement had br

ought her to a greater height and that she should not think that her position was only on

beauty but entails additional responsibilities.

Nana said Miss Konama should see herself as an ambassador and plan as to what she intends to do next for the people of the Tano South, Brong Ahafo and Ghana as a whole that would befit her achievement.

Nana said Miss Konama should not be complacent but aim high to achieve greater heights for other young girls in the district to emulate, if possible by setting a programme to educate the populace so as to bring a general improvement in the life’s of the people. Nana prayed for God’s and our ancestral guidance for Miss Konama and wished he

r well in her future endeavours.

@ 50 planning committee and on behalf of Miss Juliet Konama Sabi thanked the Omanhene and his elders for the reception accorded the entourage and lauded the advice given by Nana to the beauty queen and prayed that Nana should at all times give his support to the efforts of the District Assembly as he has always done.

A mini durbar was also held at the Bechem Community Centre in hon

our of Miss Juliet Konama and to welcome her. This durbar also served as a platform to introduce her to the people of Bechem.


The event at Bechem Community Centre was seen largely

as a grand welcoming ceremony forMiss Juliet Konama Sabi and which was enjoyed by all and sundry.
