TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL INAUGURATES 2020 DISTRICT CENSUS IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE


A committee to take charge of District Census Implementation has been inaugurated at the conference Hall in the Municipal Assembly.

The municipal coordinating Director Mr. Ayambire Akaditi who represented the Municipal Chief Executive, welcomed all dignitaries present and thanked them for making time to be present and acknowledged that the population and housing census is an indispensable governance tool which is required to ensure that good governance and democracy works for all. He said the inauguration would provide an opportunity for those in the Municipality to plan and successfully implement the 2020 Population and Housing Census and the outcome of the census would improve policy making in the Municipality.

Mr. Akaditi continued by expressing confidence in the yet to be inaugurated committee and said he had no doubt that the depth of knowledge and experience of the members of the District Census Implementation Committee being inaugurated will provide the compliment of skills and competencies needed for the successful conduct of the census in the Municipality and assure good quality results.
He mentioned that, correct data from the census can go a long way to help the Assembly allocate resources to its respective communities and urged the Assembly, chiefs and people of Tano South to support all efforts that the Ghana Statistical Service would make with respect to the census and advised people to avail themselves for the census.
He charged the District Census Implementation Committee to do all it takes to execute the job with the best of their abilities and not to disappoint.
The Regional Statistician for Ahafo, Mr. Bernard Oduro, outlined the importance of the Census Data, he mentioned that it ensures that Ghana’s Data Systems remains current, updated and relevant to policy and decision making amongst others. He mentioned that the 2020 census is more unique than any other census done in the previous years; he said this year’s process would be heavily dependent on technology. GPS coordinates will be picked for all structures and communities, there will be an in-built quality control system for internal consistency validation of the data collected, all EAs maps have been digitized and this would allow for information to be validated and plotted on maps.

Mr. Oduro outlined some of the preparations done so far towards the implementation of the census; He mentioned that census questionnaires have been developed and tested, two trial census have been conducted, national census committees have been formed and many more.
 On publicity and education strategy for the census, he said publicity and public education are very essential for the successful implementation of the census. He said the key message is to make every person in Ghana aware of the 2020 Population and housing Census and the need for their participation.
Ending his address, he mentioned the responsibilities of the District Census Implementation Committees and charged them not to put up any lackadaisical attitude towards work but rather do their best to make the implementation a success.
