NATIONAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT HEALTH WORKERS UNDERGO TRAINING IN THE TANO SOUTH DISTRICT

Selected applicants of the Community Health Workers Module of the National Youth Employment Agency programme in the Tano South District have undergone an eleven (11) days training workshop in Health related issues.

At a short but impressive opening ceremony of the workshop at Bechem, the Tano South District Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Agency, Mr. Benjamin Agyei in a speech welcomed all gathered and said the training forms part of a series of such workshops his outfit intends to organize for the Community Health Workers of the Agency in the District.

Mr. Agyei said, the Youth Employment Agency has been established by government to give employment and skills to the youth to enable them earn a living. He said, the Act which established the Agency also mandated the Agency to employ beneficiaries for a period of two (2) years and urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of their two year programme and re-write the subjects that they could not get passes in to enable them further their education.

The Tano South District Director of Health Service, Dr. Peter Asare in a speech said the training programme offers an opportunity to the Community Health Workers and urged them to prepare their minds to learn whatever they would be taught during the training programme. He said, the programme will help them to acquire skills and knowledge to enable them implement action plan at their various workplaces.

Dr. Asare said, though the workers would encounter challenges at their workplaces, they should not hesitate to report such challenges to their authorities for action to be taken on them and entreated them to refrain from absenteeism and be hardworking.

The Tano South District Chief Executive, Hon Bukari Zakari Anaba in an address said, the president considers such programmes very vital and on behalf of MP for the constituency and on his own behalf welcomed the beneficiaries to the training workshop.

Hon. Anaba told the beneficiaries that their work is not an easy one so they should take their training seriously to enable them acquire the basic skills and knowledge in the work they would be going out to do. He said, in  case of meeting any problem in the course of their work, they should report all matters to their superior officer but not to take the law into their hands and act as they deem fit and refrain from politicising the programme.

Hon. Anaba paid a glowing tribute to the Public Service Commission for the mandate given to the Youth Employment Agency to give employment to the youth in the various modules and appealed to the District Director of Health Service to post the beneficiaries to nearby Health Centres to reduce the staff accommodation problem facing the Health Sector in the district.

The District Chief Executive assured the beneficiaries that their salaries would be taken care of by the District Office of the Agency and said salary related issues confronting them should also be reported to the District Office of the programme.

Participants were taken through some basic Health issues and health communication.
