GRADUATE APPENTICES RECEIVE SUPPORT

Thirty one (31) graduate apprentices in dressmaking in the Tano South District have received a Sewing Machine each as start up kits after undergoing six month training in the field.


The donation which is part of a package designed by the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) and Asongtaba Cottage Industries a Non governmental organization which seek to promote skill training and financial assistances to the youth in various fields and has partnered the government of Ghana to assist in some of the modules of the National Youth Employment programme.

At a presentation ceremony at Bechem , the Project Coordinator of Asongtaba Mr. Simon Amwani said his outfit has partnered the government to curb unemployment hence its decision to assist the National Youth Employment Programme in giving skill training in various fields to the youth of the country and also assisting them with start-up kits on completion of their training.

Mr. Amwani said Asongtaba again give financial assistance in the form of a loan to granduands who desire it to enable them establish their own business and come into terms with them as to the repayment of the financial assistance. He hinted that plans are far advanced to involve Asontaba in the training of Auto Mechanics as part of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) modules.



He advised the youth to take advantage of the programmes and be part of it so as to earn a decent living and also urged the graduands to take care of the machines they have received.

In a speech the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinator of the NYEP Mr. Philip Ankomah said though some anomalies have made the payment of allowances of beneficiaries of the youth employment delayed for sometime, the government is taking steps to remedy the situation and hoped funds would soon be released to effect payment. He mentioned that steps are also being taken to add more modules to the programme in addition to the existing ones and said this would also enable more jobs to be created.



The Tano South District Chief Executive Hon. Bukari Zakari Anaba in a speech said the occasion shows clearly the fulfillment of the National Democratic Congress campaign pledge and also as contained in their manifesto and used the occasion to pay glowing tribute to Asontaba Cottage Industries for their immerse contribution towards the eradication of poverty and providing skill training to the youth of this country.

Hon Anaba hinted that the government has initiated a local and skill development programme in 170 Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies to provide requisite skills for mobile phone repairers and Auto mechanics.

The function was chaired by Nana Kwasi Agyemang the Asomfohene of Bechem Traditional Area who advised the graduates to take proper care of the machines presented to them and take advantage of Asongtaba’s financial assistance to establish their own business.
