TANO SOUTH ASSEMBLY ENDORSES PRESIDENT`S NOMINEE AS MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE

The Presidents nominee Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi as the Municipal Chief Executive for the Tano South Municipal of the Ahafo Region for the second term in office received a massive majority vote in an election held at St. Joseph`s College of Education Assembly Hall.

The election which was witnessed by the Regional Minister Hon George Boakye, Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere MP Tano South, Mr. Anthony Owusu - Amoako Municipal Coordinating Director, Aide to the Vice President Dr. Gideon Boako, Hon. Ernest Kwarteng, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, Nananom, and some party executives.

In a short speech before the conduct of the election the Presiding Member of the Assembly Hon. Asare Antwi called for cooperation of all present to contribute their quota towards the successful conduct of the election. The presiding member said the nomination made by the president comply with section 241(1) of the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana and section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act 1993 and Act 462. He said this nomination is not valid until there is confirmation through election by Honorable Members of the August House for which reason they have converge today.

Hon. Asare said, the Nominee has performed creditably in more ways  than one and it is only right that he is given the nod to enable him continue the good work he commenced.

The election which was conducted by the Municipal Electoral Commission headed by Mrs. Alberta Osei Bonsu saw the electoral officer taking the assembly members through the electoral laws and saw the end of the voting with Hon. Collies Offinam Takyi obtaining 53 Yes and 4 No out of the 57 vote cast thus representing 93%.

In an acceptance speech, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi said it is with humility and immense gratitude that he accepts their confirmation as the Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South Municipal and thanked the assembly members and all the people who have travelled some distance from their various places to attend programme and all honorable assembly members present for their bold decision by giving him the nod to serve his second term in office.

  Hon. Takyi said, he did not see the victory as a personal one, but rather a victory for progress and development. He said this confirmation attest to the fact that His Excellence the President knew exactly whom the people wonted.

He said it is important to state that the success chalked during his first term in office were as a result of hard work, commitment selflessness, dedication and determination of all stakeholders but this is not in a way to suggest that there were no challenges, but they manage them in such a way that they could not affect their collective interest of working to improve the living conditions of our people.He assured  the honorable assembly members that most of the issues that were at the center stage of disagreement have been identified and that he was going to do everything within his power to address them since in every human institution these differences are inevitable but, but then is a healthy one.

Hon. Takyi   again expressed his gratitude to Nananom, all heads of department and institutions whose professional advice and support has brought them to this level and promise the people that the assembly would continue to deliver on the areas of infrastructure development, poverty reduction in various part of the Municipality.

 Concluding his address he took the opportunity to thank His Excellency the President for the confidence reposed in him by nominating him for the second time.

SAMUEL OTU PRESBYTERIAN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES GOVERNMENT'S SUPPORT

 The government of Ghana through the Ahafo Regional Minster, Mr. George Yaw Boakye has handed over a 4x4 Hilux pick-up to Samuel Otu Presbyterian Senior High School in Techimantia and also inaugurated two major projects in the said school.

According to him, all the challenges of the school have not been tackled by government but urged Management of the school to appreciate the good work government has started in the school and do all it takes to impact knowledge to the students for the students to perform well academically.

He said hard work pays and for that matter, charged students to show respect to their teachers, devoid from immoral activities which would jeopardize their future and take their studies seriously to enable them become good leaders in future.

Hon. Boakye thanked the Chiefs for their leading role played to make peace exists in the Municipality and urged them to also come together to fight for the developmental needs of the Municipality.

Mr. Evans Asare, headmaster of Samuel Otu Presbyterian Senior High School thanked the government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo and the Ahafo Regional Minister for their kind gesture and indicated that the tremendous investments government has done in the school would go a long way to improve the school's academic work.

On the achievements of the school, he said the school could boost of having Wi-fi internent facility, vehicles, etc. among others.

Presenting the keys to the headmaster of the aforementioned school, Mrs. Lucy Ankrah, the Ahafo Regional Director of Education said the vehicle would go a long way to make management of Samuel Otu Presbyterian SHS effectively manage the school.  He charged the headmaster of the school to put the vehicle into good use.

In his address, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi (MCE) for Tano South lauded NPP government for providing infrastructures to the Municipality to improve the living standards of the residents and said the government through Tano South Municipal Assembly has implemented a number of projects and programmes to improve the life of people in the Municipality.

Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, the Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency in his speech, said his office has liaised with the Assembly and collated developmental challenges  confronting the Constituency and presented to appropriate quarters to be addressed and hoped in no time,  all the said challenges would be solved  by government.

 The Krontihene of Techemantia, Nana Ampong Kromantain, who chaired the programme, thanked the President and the Regional Minister for their diligent roles played to acquire a bus for the Samuel Otu Senior High School at Techimantia and said free SHS Educational Policy has increased the enrollment figure of the school and called on government to take urgent steps to construct dining hall, teachers' bungalows and boys' dormitories for the School, since the school has 366 hectares of land.
