A parade formed by
school children, artisans and brigade cadet corps to observe 62nd
Independence Day Anniversary Celebration has been held at Bechem. The reason
for the celebration of the Independence Day is to make residents in the
Municipality pay tribute to those whose contributions and efforts made Ghana
attains independence.
The programme which
held at the Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School’s park saw dignitaries like
Hon Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South, Mr. K. K. Senchery, the
Co-odinating Director for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Mr. Alex Agyemang
Badu, the finance officer for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Mr. Abraham
Bansah, the Municipal Police Commander, Mr. Cliford Teiko Ashie, the Municipal
Fire Commander, Mrs. Mabel Botokro, the Municipal Education Director and Nana
Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, the Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area.

Before the march past,
Hon Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South was accompanied by Mr. Abraham Bansah, the Municipal Police
Commander, Mr. Cliford Teiko Ashie, the Municipal Fire Commander and Mrs. Mabel
Botokro, the Municipal Education Director to inspect the parade with a
patriotic song popularly known as ‘’Oman
beye yia, n’fire yen ara’’.
In his keynote address,
the MCE for Tano South Hon Collins Offinam Takyi, welcomed all contingents and
observers for making time out of their busy schedules to attend Municipality’s
version of the 62nd Independence Day Anniversary Celebration and
said the failure on the part of Member
of Parliament for the Constituency to
attend the programme was due to the fact that, he had attended similar event
with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic
of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces at Tamale Regional Capital.

He defined 6th March as a constitutional
holiday set aside by government to honour those whose efforts and
contributions helped Ghana to achieve Independence and said the theme for this year’s Independence Day
Anniversary is ‘’celebrating Peace and
Unity’’. He said Ghana cannot
achieve its expected development without peace and unity and informed all and
sundry to come together as one people with one common destiny to support
government to implement its policies and programmes to help improve the living
standard of people. He said peace and unity existed among the older generation
and for that matter, they were able to work together as one people to achieve
Ghana’s independence and urged younger generation to desist from things which
can cause distraction to the Nation’s peace.
Hon Takyi said since
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government assumed office
they have been able to introduce a number of intervention programmes and
policies at the various sectors of the economy to improve the living standard
of the people. He stressed that government has also introduced free senior high
school policy of which the policy has helped to increase enrolment figures in
the second cycle schools and also relief financial constraints on some parents.
He stressed that government has put more resources into educational sector with
the aim to improve the living conditions of the younger generation and informed
students to take their learning seriously so as to make them become the good
future leaders.

Hon. Takyi said
government has outlined various intervention programmes, activities and
policies in its 2019 budget statement and he hopes if all of them are
implemented by government they will go a long way to make Ghana develops and
used the day to catalogue some of the achievements of the Tano South Municipal
Assembly.
Exercise books,
certificates, mathematical sets were presented to all participating schools
whilst award of prizes was also given to the
best performing schools at primary, JHS and 2nd cycle
institutions.
Nana Awuah Boadi , the
Bechem Nifahene who spoke on behalf of Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, the
Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area and chairman of the programme thanked the committee for burning candle in
the night to make the Municipality celebrates its 62nd Independence
Day Anniversary and call on committee to
be more proactive to ensure the ensuing year’s programme will commence on
timely manner to avoid keeping school children in scorching sun.
