57 ASSEMBLY MEMBERS RECEIVE MOTORBIKES


Fifty seven motorbikes which were released to Tano South Municipal Assembly to be given to Hon. Assembly Members in the Municipality has been commissioned and distributed to Hon. Assembly Members by Management of Tano South Municipal Assembly.

The programme which held at the Municipal Chief Executive’s residency saw dignitaries like Hon. John Dadzie, the Presiding Member for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, MCE for Tano South and Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, the Deputy Minister for Ahafo Region and Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency. 
In a short but impressive opening address, the presiding member for Tano South Municipal Assembly thanked Hon. Assembly Members for making time out of their busy schedule to attend the programme. He said failure on the part of Tano South Municipal Assembly for the release of motorbikes during the first quarter of this year to Hon. Assembly Members made them took a decision to boycott Assembly meeting but when management of the Assembly intervened the matter they assured them that management would do all they can to provide  them with the motorbikes and hinted that it is upon the assurance given to Hon. Members by management that Assembly has commissioned and distributed fifty- seven motorbikes to Hon. Assembly Members.

The MCE for Tano South, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi congratulated Minister for Local Government and Rural Development for taking a bull by the horn to procure fifty –seven motorbikes to Hon. Members in the Tano South Municipality to enhance the work of the Assembly members. He said among the Districts and Municipal Assemblies in Brong Ahafo Region, Tano South Municipal Assembly has the highest Assembly Members and for that matter, the Municipality has recorded highest number of motorbikes and informed them to use the motorbikes for their intended purposes.

Hon. Takyi said, one of the problems which caused Tano South Municipal Assembly to delay the distribution of motorbikes to Hon. Assembly Members is that management of the Assembly made efforts to obtain motor licenses and registration number for each Assembly Member and since all efforts have proofed futile, he informed every beneficiary to take due processes to acquire motor license and registration number before putting it into operation.
Lastly, he used the occasion to catalogue some of the achievements of government and also informed them on some of the projects planned to execute in the Municipality by the Tano South Municipal Assembly.
 Hon Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, the Deputy Minister for Ahafo Region and Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency urged beneficiaries of the motorbikes to obey road safety regulations to make them live longer to serve the people at their electoral areas in the Municipality and said government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has passed a bill into law of which all MMDCEs will be elected in 2021 by legible voters and said a referendum on the election of MMDCEs will be conducted by electoral commissioner in no time and informed all Assembly Members to take part of the exercise whenever it commences in the Municipality.

RAINSTORM DESTROYS OVER THREE HUNDRED PROPERTIES


A heavy rainstorm has hit New Brosankro in the Tano South Municipality to destroy over three hundred properties and eventually rendered some of the victims homeless.
An eyewitness who was interviewed described the rainstorm as very disastrous and explained that the rain which came with thunder and lightning started 8th May, 2019 and ended 9th May, 2019.  After the rain he assessed the damages and found out that it has vandalized many properties including Brosankro L/ A Primary School and hinted that the event has made most of the affected people flee their homes to seek for shelter elsewhere.
Mr. Alexander Sarkodie whose abode was affected by the rainstorm called on government to do all it takes to support victims with the necessary materials to make them go on their normal duties at Brosankro. He said currently, Ghana is experiencing new climate change and the climate change has come with its associate problems and urged government to put measures in place to arrest and prosecute illegal chain saw operators and other party’s supporters who invade the forest to embark on deforestation exercise.

 Mr.  Abdule Jafaru, the Tano South National Disaster and Management Organization confirmed that the rainstorm has destroyed over three hundred and forty one (341) properties belonging to the people of New Brosankro. He assured the victims that government through the Tano South Municipal Assembly would do all they could to support them with some relief items to enable them continue to leave in the community to do their normal duties. He added that victims who were injured seriously have been conveyed to Bechem government hospital for treatment.
 The MP for Tano South Constituency and Deputy Minister for Ahafo Region Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere ( Hon.) and MCE for Tano South Collins Ofinam Takyi ( Hon.)  were also paid a visit to the community respectively to assess the extent of  damages and interacted with victims too. They said government would expedite action to provide relief items to the victims.

TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS ASSEMBLY MEETING


The first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Tano South Municipal Assembly has been held at Bechem.
The meeting which held at the Assembly’s conference hall saw dignitaries like Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South, Hon. John Dadzie, the Presiding Member for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Mr. K. K. Sencherey, the Municipal Coordinating Director and Mr. Alexander Agyemang Badu, the Municipal Finance Officer.

In an opening address, Hon. John Dadzie, the Presiding Member for Tano South Municipal Assembly thanked Hon Assembly Members, heads of departments and others for honouring the invitation to attend the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly to discuss the development agenda of the Municipality. He emphasized that this important meeting is in fulfilment of the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936 and Assembly’s Standing Order which mandate Hon. Assembly Members to meet periodically to deliberate on problems confronting the Municipality and way forward to address them to ensure they have positive impact on the residents.
On Public Relations and Complaint Committee of the Assembly, Hon Dadzie said it is one of the two (2) committees of the Assembly as prescribed by the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936 and the Assembly’s Standing Order. He stressed that the committee was able to address issues bought before the committee by some residents and urged all honourable members to educate their electorates about the existence and duties of the committee to enable them refer issues of concern to the committee for redress to ensure peace continues to exist in the Municipality.

On motor bicycles for Hon. Assembly Members, Hon. Dadzie said NALAG Secretariat at Accra has deposited the motor bikes at the Regional Minister’s Residency of which the bikes are in the process of assembling for onward distribution to honourable Members and urged them to remain call till the exercise is completed and congratulated them for executing their mandates to improve the living standards of some residents. He informed all honourable members to follow provisions in Assembly’s standing order and contribute their quota to make the meeting a success.
In another development, the MCE for Tano South Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi welcomed Hon. Assembly Members to the august house and thanked them for making time out of their busy schedule to participate the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly and carried greetings from the offices of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo , the President of the Republic of Ghana and Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie, the Minister for Ahafo Region to all members present at the meeting. He said honourable members should desist from all forms of partisan tendencies and individual egos which could derail collective efforts being made by authorities to bring development projects in the Municipality and urged them to come together as one people with one common destiny to fight for the development needed in the Municipality by the electorates.

On Assembly’s financial status, he stated that Assembly acquires money from four thematic areas namely; the District Assemblies Common Fund, Internally Generated Fund, District Development Facility and Donations. He said Assembly uses the Common fund to execute some specific projects captured and approved from the Assembly’s composite budget whilst other funds are used by Assembly to perform some community projects and other services needed by the general public.
Hon. Takyi stressed that management under his leadership with the support of relevant stakeholders adopted innovative strategies last year to make Assembly achieves its revenue target  and reiterated that management of the Tano South Municipal Assembly has also rolled out some new strategies this year to improve Assembly’s revenue and mentioned some of the strategies as the formation of revenue taskforce, develop stickers to be embossed on kiosks, containers and houses to ensure easy identification of owner who have paid their operational fees and property rate for their houses etc.  
With regards to education, Hon. Takyi said the school feeding programme which was introduced under the leadership of former President John Agyekum Kufour and continued by successive governments has expanded to cover nineteen (19) schools in the Municipality by Assembly and on the importance of the programme to the schools, he said enrolment figure of the beneficiaries’ schools has been increased tremendously and explained that a total number of one thousand, six hundred and thirty – seven candidates have drawn from three (3) Senior High Schools within the Municipality to seat for WASSCE Examination this year.  On measures to curb examination malpractices, he said the Municipal Education Directorate has taken steps to verify all candidates biometrically and used the occasion to catalogue some of the achievements of government.

Hon Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, the MP for Tano South Constituency after assuming office as the Deputy Minister for Ahafo Region has paid courtesy call on chiefs in the Tano South and North Municipality to brief them on his new appointment and latter worshiped with the local council of churches to thank Almighty God at Derma.

Accompanied to the programme were Hon Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South, Hon Ernest Kwarteng, the MCE for Tano North, the formal Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency Hon Andrews Adjei Yeboah, Tano south Branch of New Patriotic Party’s Executives, Hon. Assembly Members and some heads of department.
At the communities and thanks giving service, the Deputy Minister for Ahafo Region said His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo and his government have been able to identify problems confronting the residents  of the Region and said he would collaborate with the Ahafo Regional Minister to address the problems and informed the chiefs that all documentations to tarre Bechem -town roads have been completed by government and assured them that work on the roads will be commenced before June, 2019.

hinted that more of the region’s resources will be used to develop tourist sites to create employment for the youth thereby   helping to reduce high incidence of rural urban migration.   He called on residents in the region to come together as one people to fights for development projects rather than allowing politics to disintegrate them.  
In another development, the MCE for Tano South Hon Collins Offinam Takyi said the resources belonging to the region will be distributed for the districts equally  to make each district carries out development projects to help improve the living standard of the people. Also, he urged residents in the region to honour their tax obligations to make government get enough money to carry out projects and implement other policies and programmes.
Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, the Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area and other chiefs advised the Minister to work hard to ensure the residents in the region benefit from government policies and programme and informed party’s executive members to use appropriate medium to address their grievances rather than washing their dirty clothes at the public.

BECHEM RURAL TECHNOLOGY FACILITY’S MANAGER URGES PARENTS TO GIVE THEIR WARDS VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION


 Ten (10) people who have completed three – year apprenticeship programme in welding and fabrication works and graduated from the Rural Technology Facility- Bechem have been given start – up kits to establish their businesses.

In a short but impressive opening remarks, Mr Alex Ampofo, the Manager in charge of Rural Technology Facility Bechem thanked successive governments and present government for putting in place measures to establish the facility to train residents in the Municipality and beyond on welding and fabrication works and informed parents to send their wards to the facility to make the children acquire practical skills which could help them to set up businesses. He stressed that the facility has production and training sections and explained that the production section seeks to manufacture and repair machines, offers technological support services to stakeholders who seek the services of the facility whist the training section trains rural master craft person and technical students. On the importance of vocation and technical education, he said it gives students practical skills and knowledge which could help them to establish their own shops and employ other people to minimize unemployment issues confronting the nation.

The MCE for Tano South Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi thanked management of Bechem Rural Technology facility for imparting their practical skills and knowledge to granduants and urged them to take care of the equipment and urged them to use the equipment for its intended purposes. He said the failure on the part of MP to attend the programme is that, he has attended such equally important programme with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo at Ahafo Regional Capital and informed beneficiaries that Presidents of the Republic of Ghana would pay a one – day working visit to the Municipality to interact with residents to find out the needed priorities of the Municipality and urged them to come in their number when the time comes.

Since items and equipment were given to graduands and people living with disability, the MCE said government has recognized that people living with disability play major role toward Ghana’s development and for that matter, government has increased the disability’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund from two percent (2%) to three percent (3%). He said management of Tano South Municipal Assembly had meeting with executives of Tano South branch of Ghana Federation of People Living with  Disability and at the end of discussion, the two parties agreed to use the disability’s share of the common fund to procure items for beneficiaries of the scheme and explained that it is against this background that this programme has been held to also make office of Social Welfare and Community Development  present start – up kits to some physically challenged people in the Municipality and advised parents whose children have low retentive memory should send them to Beechen Rural Technology Facility to enable them acquire vocational skills and used the occasion to catalogue some the achievements of government.
 The program which held at the forecourt of Bechem Community Centre saw dignitaries like Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South, Hon. Ernest Kwarteng, the MCE for Tano North, Hon. Andrews Adjei Yeboah, the former MP for Tano South Constituency, Tano South branch of some New Patriotic Party’s executives and some head of department.
