established a poultry farm in the capital town. With a humble beginning of a sponsorship package of 4,000 us dollars from the African Women Development Fund, the NGO established the poultry farm in January 2011 with 130 layers and 200 broilers. In the five months of operations, the farm can boast of tremendous improvement in birds and eggs production. Although it is the 3rd in the series of such farms in Bechem, their activities have shown that when given time and needed supports, the farm will be one of the best in the district, since it has a large track of land at the site on which maize have been planted to support the production of poultry feed to supplement the additional feed for the birds.
The establishment of the poultry farm has also helped reduce unemployment rate in Bechem as the farm has employed ten (2) staff.
With all these achievements, the farm exists with some challenges such as a resident accommodation for the care takers of which HUCAM is pulling its meager resources to construct one in order to assist the care taker to have 24hours daily check on the birds. The absence of night watchman can also give room for the activities of thieves.
According to HUCAM executive director, Miss Evelyn Bemah Darkwah, proceeds from the poultry farm will be used to support the activities of organized group of People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWA) in the Tano-South District.
