HIV/AIDS WORKSHOP HELD IN TANO SOUTH DISTRICT

A workshop on HIV/AIDS has been organized for heads of Departments, organizations and stakeholders in the Tano South District at Bechem. The workshop was aimed at educating the participants on the mode of transmission, control and prevention of the disease.


In a speech the Tano South District HIV/AIDS Coordinator, Mr. Timothy Anabilla disclosed that, the virus can be found in body fluids such as blood, semen, breast milk and vaginal fluids and other sharp objects such as blades and needles used in the homes, salons and barbering shops are some of the carriers of the virus from an infected person to another if not tested or sterilized after each use.

He stated that, feeling of tiredness at all times, rapid loss of weight, having diarrhea for more than a month, recurrent shingles, and severe headaches among others are some of the major signs and symptoms of the disease and must be reported to the nearest hospital or clinic for immediate health assistance.


To prevent and control the spread of the disease he advised the participants to stop, stigmatizing and discriminating people living with HIV/AID, Abstaining from sex, being faithful to one’s sexual partner and condom usage as some of the positive measures to reduce the spread of the disease. Mr. Anabilla urged barbers and hair dressers to sterilize their instruments after use.


Also in a speech the Tano South District Planning Officer Mr. Isaac Brown Ankomah , entreated the participants to help educate their staff and communities members on the disease. He therefore advised them to accept people living with HIV/AIDS into their communities and h
omes since they need love and empathy to sustain their remaining live on earth.
