THE DISTRICT FIRE SERVICE EDUCATES ASSEMBLY STAFF

As part of its drive to educate institutions on the use of fire extinguishers in case of eventualities, the Tano South District Fire Service as organized a Fire Drill and Education Exercise to educate the staff of the Tano South District Assembly.
Speaking at the forum, the Tano South District Chief Executive Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba commended the District Fire Service for such an educative programme. He said fire outbreaks are one thing that needs to be avoided as it leads to lose of properties, untimely death thus causing destruction to the victim and the nation as a whole.
Messrs Robert Ankama the District Extension Officer and Samuel Lartey the District Station Officer took turns to educate the assembly staff on causes, prevention and measures to be taken when dealing with fire cases. They elaborated on some causes of fire outbreaks such as ignorance, carelessness, negligence and accidental cases. They further outlined cases such as overloading of socket, careless handling of some household appliances like electric heaters, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electric irons and refrigerators.
They therefore advised the assembly staff to take such measures like effective packaging at home and office so fire cannot spread easily, store water in the room to use in case of fire outbreak, protect the naval when passing through fire, not to inhale smoke as the CO2 in the smoke can kill easily and experiment escaping from the room when the lights are off.
Staff were also taught how to use the CO2 Extinguisher and Dry Chemical Powder Extinguisher. Some participants were therefore asked to experiment how to quench fire with these extinguishers whiles others on the other hand asked questions such as “How to quench liquefied fires like petrol and kerosene”, How electric fire can be quenched”, and “How to rescue people from electric shock”.
