PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITY IN THE TANO SOUTH MUNICIPALITY RECEIVE SHARE OF COMMON FUND

 

The Tano South Municipality Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has disbursed the three percent (3%)  Share of the Common Fund meant for people living with disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality.

In a short address to welcome the beneficiaries, the Tano South Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mad Gladys Zuuri said the Government of Ghana in its policy to invest in the people to transform the economy has made it possible to distributed the items to people living with disability (PWD) in the Tano South Municipality with the aim of supporting them to expand their businesses and advised them to use the items for it purpose and not to sell.

 Addressing the beneficiaries, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi extended the warm Greetings from His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the beneficiaries. He said it is an obligation on the part of the government to support people living with disability and through that, the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has released the items representing three percent (3%) of the Assembly’s Common Fund to be disbursed to people living with disability in the district.

Explaining the methodology through which beneficiaries are selected, Hon. Takyi said, the Assembly relied on the Data captured from the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the selection of beneficiaries and urged the beneficiaries to always give accurate information to government Institutions and Agencies in compiling individual data for policy and decision making processes.

Addressing the gathering, the MP and the Deputy of Ahafo Region Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere  expressed gratitude to be part of the ceremony as he recognises the role Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) play in the socio economic development of the Municipality and the country as a whole and indicated that the government has set up a scheme to allocate three percent (3%) of the Municipal Assembly’s common fund solely to serve the needs of Persons with disabilities and affirmed that the allocation for the disabled persons is governed and urged all persons living with disabilities to register and join the Association of the disabled so as to benefit from the fund.

Hon. Sekyere said the previous disbursement comprised of physical cash to PWDs which a lot of them complained of not ever receiving them so the government had to restructure the policy to rather support and encourage PWDs economic livelihoods by providing them with equipment and assistive tools. In so doing, it will help to resource them to also employ other people to reduce the unemployment in the country. He again encouraged PWDs to use the equipment /tools to work and not to sell them. He said the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development would embark on unannounced monitoring to assess how PWDs are utilizing the equipment or tools.

The Chairman Abdulai Isssah, thanked the Department and the Government for their continuous support and urged all PWDs to utilize the equipment/tools to show their seriousness so as to get more support from the government. He again said they should not condemn/demean themselves but hold themselves in high esteem so earn respect from the general public.

NEWMONT GHANA DONATES ITEMS TO TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

 

The Ahafo Newmont Ghana has donated an items worth 15,000 to the Tano South Municipal Assembly to make the said Assembly effectively reward hardworking farmers in the municipality as Ghana celebrates the 36th Farmers' Day.

The items were 1 motor king (small basket), 5 bicycles with basket, 20 wellington boots, 4 boxes of key soap and 85 Newmont branded T-shirts.

Presenting the items, Mr .Steven Petrofes, the project Director of Newmont Ghana said Agriculture contributes to development of Ghana's economy. It was against this background that Newmont has established Agricultural Improvement and Land Access Programme aimed to support farmers found at the Newmont operational areas.

Mr. Steven reiterated that Newmont also collaborates with other Agencies and department to organize training programme for farmers on modern methods of Agricultural practices to enable the farmers acquire knowledge to meet the modern trend of Agriculture.

He assured the general public that Newmont would continue to give support to farmers to ensure they produce more food to feed the Nation

The Municipal Director of Agriculture who received the items on behalf of the Assembly thanked management of Newmont for their kind gesture and also pledged that the items would be given to the deserving farmers.

36th FARMER’S DAY CELEBRATES HELD IN TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL

 

The Tano South Municipal version of the 36th Farmer’s day celebration has been held at Dwomo under the theme “Ensuring Agribusiness Development Under Covid 19: Chalenges and opportunities"

The dignitaries who joined farmers to celebrate the aforementioned programme were the Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South, Mr. Collins Offinam Takyi, Former MP for Tano South, Mr. Andrews Agyei Yeboah, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Asare Antwi, Mr. Steven Petrofes, the project director for Newmont Ghana, Nananom, NPP party's executives and among others.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture Mr. Kyei Baffour Owusu -Achiaw commended farmers for making time out of their busy schedule to attend the programme.  He said farmers have been the backbone of our nation, Ghana over the years. He reiterated that the contributions of the farmers have made Ghana to be recognized intentionally.

 Mr. Owusu- Achiaw congratulated government for initiating a number of programme s and policies in Agricultural sector to make the sector induce many people to invest their resources.  He however, encouraged the residents to seize the opportunities the government has provided in the agric sector and make good use of it

Mr. Owusu- Achiaw urged Nananom to release farmlands with flexible agreements to people who want to venture into Agriculture in the Municipality. This he said would encourage the younger generation to put their capital into farming rather than channel their energy and resources into immoral activities

The Municipal chief executive for Tano South, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi in his welcome address said the NPP government’s agriculture intervention programmes introduced under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has helped many people to acquire sustainable jobs.

Hon. Takyi said the government's flagship programme such as planting for food and jobs have also helped the Nation records more farm produce to enable the school feeding programme to be effectively run by government.

The negative effects of covid-19 on the part of agriculture, he said the emergence of the said disease in Ghana has caused many destruction to the life of people thereby reducing the activities of the farmers. He said the pragmatic measures put in place to curb the spread of the corona virus by government have also yielded positive results thereby helping us to come together as one people with one common destiny to observe this remarkable farmers' day.

 He congratulated all award winning farmers and encouraged others to work harder to ensure they are also awarded in the subsequent programmes and urged all participants especially the legible voters to consider the achievements of the NPP government and vote to return government in power in the upcoming 2020 general elections.

TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS ASSEMBLY MEETING AT BECHEM

 

The Second General meeting of the First Session of the Tano South Municipal Assembly has been held at St. Joseph College of Education in Bechem of the Ahafo Region.

The meeting was attended by Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South, Hon. Asare Antwi, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr. Akaditi Ayambire Municipal Coordinating Director, representative of the Bechem Traditional Council, Assembly Members and Heads of Department.

 The presiding member of the Assembly, Hon. Asare Antwi, in an opening address said, the meeting would offer members the opportunity to deliberate on developmental issues confronting the municipality in the areas of health, education, sanitation, roads and among others.

According to him, the meeting would also help members to bring their expertise to bear to help management of the Assembly to prepare appropriate composite budget to be used by Assembly in 2021.

Hon. Antwi said, one of the responsibilities of the Assembly members is to monitor the activities carried out by Management of the Assembly and if possible urge Assembly to review some of its activities and programmes to meet the demands of the residents.              

He changed Assembly members to apply the model standing orders whenever they want to ask questions, clarification during proceedings and many more and however informed them to contribute their quota to make the meeting a success.

Collins Offinam Takyi in his sessional address commended the   Assembly Members for their prompt response to the meeting and thanked them for supporting the Assembly to welcome the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during their tour in the Municipality to inspect the ongoing developmental projects which have been commenced by the central government and that of the Assembly.

On the Assembly's  Internal Generated Fund (IGF) , Hon. Takyi said a number of strategies have been put in place by Assembly to ensure more revenue is acquired but the emergence of COVID - 19 pandemic in Ghana has completely affected the  Assembly's revenue where the Assembly could not even  achieve its revenue target for the year 2020. 

This he said would not make the Assembly to implement its planed programmers and activities in the 2020 Annual Action Plan (AAP) and charged all participants to honor their tax obligations to ensure Assembly obtains exponential rate of revenue.

On the achievements of government, he reiterated that the assumption of office by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has made the Municipality records a number of developmental projects in the various sectors of the economy such as health, roads, education, sanitation, agriculture among others.

Hon. Takyi further urged all and sundry to support government implement its planed activities, programmes and policies so as to help improve the living standards of the people.

He said the Covid. 19 has  caused destruction to the life of many people and informed Assembly members and other opinion leaders not to rely on their laurels and continue to educate their relatives to adhere to COVID -19 preventive measures. Hon. Takyi however used the occasion to remind the participants about the upcoming Municipal edition of 36th Farmers' Day Celebration with the theme; “ensuring Agribusiness Development under Covid-1-19 opportunities and Challenges."

Hon. Takyi encouraged the electorates to come out in their number to vote during the 2020 general elections and however urged party's executives to educate the citizenry on party's manifesto and also preach peace before, during and after the said elections.
