TANO SOUTH DISTRIC CHIEF EXECUTIVE VISITS BECE CENTRES IN THE DISTRICT

The conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) in the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region which began today was met with favourable conditions as basic logistics and security at various centres was very conducive. Statistics at the Tano South District Education office indicates that a total number of thousand two hundred (1200) pupils registered for this year’s examination. Out of those, number thirty seven (37) Junior High Schools registered with thirty one been public schools and six private schools.

The number of boys who registered for this year’s examination constituted of six hundred and ninety five (695) with five hundred and five was girls. In all four examination centres were created namely, Bechem centre A, Bechem centre B, Techimantia centre and Drema centre. At Bechem centre A the number of pupils who registered was two hundred and forty five (245) including two blind pupils. The number of pupils present at Bechem centre A was two hundred and forty four pupils (244) with one been absent.

On the visit to Bechem centre B the number of registered candidates numbered up to three hundred and sixty three pupils (363). The number of pupils present for the examination was three hundred and sixty with three been absent (360). Among the absentees were two boys and a girl. A Techimantia, the number of pupils who registered for the B.E.C.E was three hundred and seventy four pupils (374). Out of this number three hundred and seventy one (371) were present for the examination. Absentees at this centre numbered three. Also at Derma centre, two hundred and eighteen registered for the examination with one hundred and thirty one (131) been boys with the remaining number being girls.

At the time of visit the number of pupils present for the examination was two hundred and seventeen (217) with one absent. According to sources at this centre, the absentee was suffering from a heart problem and as such has been sent to the North for treatment. The Tano South District Chief Executive, Honorable Bukarai Zakari Anaba, on all his visit to the four centres wished all the candidates well in their examination and advised them to refrain from cheating and be self confidence.

He said he was hopeful they would do all they can to pass well to beat their previous records. The Tano South District Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Gyimah who received the DCE at the Derma examination centre thanked the DCE for his concern on the standard of education in the

district and assures the DCE that she was hopeful the pupils would perform to expectation and assured that they would do well to be among the well placed schools in the B.E.C.E in the country.

The Education Director expressed delight that this year’s examination did not record any pregnant pupils taking part.
