The President through the Tano South District Assembly has donated food items worth Six Thousand Three Hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis to the Moslem community in the Tano South District.
The items which are the president’s widow’s mite to the Moslems in the course of their Ramadam Fasting comprised of thirty five cartons of edible oil, forty five bags of rice and forty five bags of sugar.
Speaking at a short but impressive handing over ceremony after joining the Moslems in their Friday prayers, the Tano South District Chief Executive Hon Zakari Bukari Ananaba said the items would help the needy amongst the Moslem community to continue with the fasting since it would go a long way to show the president’s concern for the vulnerable and needy Moslems in times of their fasting period.
The DCE said as the month of August is in the heart of every Moslem as the beginning of the Ramadan fasting, it is hoped that effort would be taken to give as the Koran says that everybody who gives during Ramadan gets blessed and thus, it is in this vain that the President has directed that this token of gift should be donated to the needy and venerable in the Moslem community.
He said though small as the gifts may be, he hoped that the gesture would be received wholeheartedly and on behalf of the president and the Tano South District Assembly wished the Chief Imam and the Moslem Community a happy Eid Ul – Fitr in advance.
The Chief Imam of the Tano South District Ibrahim Gariba who received the items on behalf of the Moslem community thanked the President and the Tano South District Assembly for the kind gesture and promised that the items would be distributed according to the purpose for which it was donated and assured of Moslems continuous prayers for the nation and its leaders.
At a similar ceremony at the Derma Central Mosque where the District Chief Executive joined a large number of Moslems for the Friday prayers, the District Chief Executive assured the Moslems that the school feeding programme would be extended to the Derma Islamic Primary School when school re-opens in September and also called for their cooperation in all aspects of the running of the school.
