YUTONG BUS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT AT BECHEM – JUNCTION

A sixty – five (65) seater Yutong bus with registration number GC5097 Z traveling from Sunyani to Accra was involved in an accident with an Opel Vetra Saloon Car with registration Number GR 8677 W at the Tepa Junction on the Kumasi – Becehm highway at about 11.00pm on 12^th February 2011

An eyewitness account said the driver of the Yutong bus ignored road signs indicating he was approachi

ng a police barrier at the Bechem Junction and also ignored the flashing of a torchlight to stop from a police officer who was on duty at the barrier.

The source further said the driver of the opel car had earlier stopped at the other side of the barrier and had been given the green light to drive when all of a sudden the over speeding Yutong bus crashed into it and fell on it’s side.

The source again said, though no death was recorded, all the pas

sengers in both vehicles, received various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Bechem Government Hospital where most of them were admitted.

The Bechem Police Command is investigating the cause of the accident and have managed to tow all the two (2) vehicles from the accident scene.

STUDENTS UNION AWARDS TEACHERS IN THE TANO SOUTH DISTRICT

The Union of Tano South Students (UTASS) in a bid to improve the quality of education in the Tano South District has instituted an award scheme to motivate subject teachers and best performing schools at the BECE level in the Tano South District.
This came to light when the union held an award Ceremony at Bechem to award deserving teachers and best schools.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the public Relations Officer of the Union Mr. Shaibu Agyeman said the union has embarked on a number of educational programmes since it’s establishment some of which is free extra classes for Junior High School three (JHS 3) pupils.

Mr. Shaibu hinted that the whole programme was to motivate teachers and pupils to give of their best and also perform well in the BECE examinations.
In a message, UTASS advised people in responsible positions such as the teachers, that they play an important role in the community and therefore they must give good examples of themselves since other people especially the pupils they teach would tend to emulate them. The union advised that there are a lot of potentials in the pupils and therefore must be tapped well.

The union called on benevolent organization and individuals to assist them in cash or kind to enable them carry out their programmes so as to uplift the standard of education in the District.

Special mention was made to the patrons of the Union and some individuals who have in diverse ways helped in the sustenance of the union programmes in the community.
