TANO SOUTH HOLDS THIRD SESSIONAL MEETING

The Tano South District Assembly has held its Third General Assembly Meeting. Speaking at the meeting, the Tano South District Chief Executive Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba, informed the house that the district was among a few districts in the country to have demonstrated sufficient capacity to absorb increased levels of project resources to implement specific in the inventions for the growth of Rural Enterprise and creation of employment within the shortest possible time.


He said haven qualified under this package, Artisans and Micro Business operators in the district would be boosted and more employment would be generated in the district. Mr. Bukari Zakari Anaba also announced to the house that Bechem the district capital has been selected to host this year’s district Farmers Day Celebration and therefore entreated the Assembly Members to take active part in the celebration.


On Security, he hinted that the Assembly has given one of its vehicles to the police in the district to embark on constant night patrols to check criminal activities of armed robbers.

In recommending some social services to the house, the DCE said a task force should be formed to monitor the activities of video and dance centers to deter under aged children from visiting those places.

On sponsorship, he stated that needy but brilliant children in the district should be given the assistance to further their education. Mr. Bukari Zakari Anaba disclosed to the house that this years BECE results was better as compared to last year’s result and therefore commended teachers in the district for a good work done.

The District Chief Executive enumerated a

number of development projects currently being undertaken in the District which included, water, sanitation, accommodation, electrification, and road network and many more. Honorable Bukari Zakari Anaba revealed that by the end of this year some projects of the assembly such as the rehabilitation of all hand dug and bore-holes in the communities and construction of new public toilets would be completed.

On finances of the Assembly the DCE said the performance of the assembly in local revenue

generation could be described as fair.

On the celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Creation of Brong Ahafo Region, Mr. Bukari Zakari Anaba announced to the house that BA@50 clothes would be available for sale.


The house was briefed by Dr. Kwaku Poku Asante, an epidemiologist from Kintanpo Health Research Centre on some health related issues.

He said the commonest illness found in Ghana and Africa is malaria which is very high with about 20 - 30% of children less than 5 years carrying malaria parasites. He said it must be ensured that members of the community especially children and pregnant women use treated nets and practice preve

ntive measures such as the use of skin creams that repels mosquitoes.

Dr. Kwame Poku Asante advised the house to adapt practices such as indoor and outdoor spraying of mosquito insecticides to fight mosquitoes

On Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDS), Dr. Kwame Poku Asante said it is crucial to abstain from sex or be faithful to one’s partner since the disease is real and can be transmitted. He therefore entreated the house to accept and live with HIV/AIDS patients, since rejection can lead to the early death of these people.


Madam Fati, a representative from the Brong Ahafo Regional Office of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Sunyani, in a speech briefed the house on the AFD programme. She said the technology option of the AFD programme is to provide bore holes, hand dug wells, household latrines, small town water projects and institutional latrine.

Madam Fati revealed that this year’s projects would be totally funded by the AFD programme and therefore entreated the District assembly to support its CWSA workers in the district to effectively carry out their work in the district. She hinted that the ten (10) bore-holes would be constructed in the district. And further disclosed that household and institutional latrines would be provided for individual homes, market places, schools and hospitals on cost sharing bases with AFD programme contributing 50% of the total cost.

Questions

ranging from the use of a

percentage of

the District Assembly’s Common Fund in sponsoring the Disabled among others were asked by the house.
